Keith Heimes Sporting Clays Range dedication was held Sunday Aug 25th

The WSC Sporting Clays Range was dedicated in remembrance of Keith Heimes. Sporting Clays was a passion of Keith’s and he spent countless hours at the facility not only shooting clays but running the operation, maintaining all the throwers, and restocking clay pigeons and other supplies. Dana Heimes was present for the unveiling along with 40 WSC members and other sporting clays participants. Many people spoke about how Keith was so instrumental not only to the Sporting Clays operation but the revitalization and subsequent membership resurgence of the WSC. Keith was an exceptional person indeed. Afterwards the group shared more stories over coffee and pastries. Matthew Fleece handled the project and his efforts are very much appreciated.

These kids – youths – are the future of our shooting sports and our country’s future leaders. Your RSOs have been doing a fantastic job!

Happy and enthusiastic youth shooters!

Your WSC will staff a recruitment booth at the next Williams Gun Show. Be sure to bring your friends over to sign up. Stop by and say “Hi” and check out our informational display!
Next Practical Pistol Challenge Saturday October 12th from 9 AM to 1 PM
The WSC continues to offer the Practical Pistol Challenge as an additional and fun shooting opportunity. If you happen to go to the range when the course is being conducted please go over and check it out. You’ll see it is set up to be FUN. As the title implies, the course of fire is designed to impart ‘practical’ or a somewhat limited ‘real life defensive use’ of a pistol or pistol caliber carbine. You may ask and engage all or only certain challenges and members may shoot the course as many times as they desire. Bring a box of ammo (no hollow points) and a spare magazine or two. Drawing from the Holster, if so desired, will be permitted under supervision while conducting a Practical Pistol Challenge shooting session.
Hope to see you Sat Oct 12th! – RSOs Bill Cannon and Dale Vicari will help you.

Ringing gongs, knocking down bowling pins, and hitting center mass on Rubber Dummies

Help Wanted at the Range – That means you! Yes, YOU!
Our club is getting popular and as a result our Range Safety Officers would certainly welcome a helping hand. While the RSOs would remain in charge of the firing line and those sort of responsibilities what our RSOs could really use are members who would be willing to come out and help with these other types of duties –
- Helping the RSO open up, set up, and then shut down and close the Range.
- Helping folks sign in.
- Handing them the Safety Rules sheet to read.
- Assisting new folks in filling out a membership form properly and collecting the dues.
- Assisting “One Day Shooters” fill out the form and collect the $5 fee.
- Showing folks the target locker and helping with paper targets.
- Helping the RSO by watching the folks behind the line to keep things safe.
- Being the RSO’s second set of eyes – You see something – Say something!
- Help the RSO tally the end of day entries (The job isn’t done until the paperwork is in!)
Now how would you do this? First off contact the WSC and let us know which day you’re coming out. Shoot us a quick email at azwscrange01@gmail.com or, even if at the last minute you decide ‘what the heck,’ you can just show up too. The RSO is at the range about an hour early as there is ‘stuff to do’ to get the place set up. We’ll get you a snappy orange vest to wear (but sorry no red hat), a quick introduction, and keep it simple for you.
PLEASE give this serious consideration as YOUR RSOs would really appreciate the help. You can even look at the range calendar on the WSC website and pick your favorite RSO! Bring water, sunscreen, a light pair of gloves, and a hat. Dress appropriately. Have a question? Shoot us an email. We’re all volunteers and we could use more help.
Pick up your Brass – Important!
All WSC Members are required to pick up their expended brass at the end of their shooting session. This is a requirement by the USFS upon whose land the Range is located. DO NOT throw the brass in the trash cans. There is a specific “Brass Bucket” for their collection located behind the shooting bench. And no aluminum or steel cases so please throw those away. If you don’t know where the brass bucket is please ask the RSO. To help defray our operating expenses your WSC recycles the brass. Also if you have any brass at home that you’re sitting on and don’t know what to do with it, bring it out and add it to our collection.
Shotgun usage at the Williams Range
Shotguns shall only be fired on the Rifle side and a donation in the target can will be expected as the target frames will be destroyed. Building replacement target frames is extra work for our RSOs. Your understanding in this matter will be appreciated.

The Grump – “Here’s my opinion – ought to be yours!”

I’m at that age where my mind still thinks I’m 29, my humor suggests I’m 12, while my body mostly keeps asking if I’m sure I’m not dead yet.
I don’t always go the extra mile, but when I do it’s because I missed my exit.
How many of us have looked around our family reunion and thought “Well aren’t we just two clowns short of a circus?”
You don’t realize how old you are until you sit on the floor and then try to get back up.
We all get heavier as we get older because there’s a lot more information in our heads.
“Snap Shot”

The vet said the anti-scratch cone would be $50.
Tractor Supply had it for $19.95….
