 Happy Thanksgiving!

Being a sportsman’s club and all it probably would have been most appropriate for the WSC to have offered a Turkey Shoot this month.  But with all the uncertainties of the still wobbly economy and uncertain times until Jan 20th it is unclear if the turkey would have the courage to get out of the chicken coup to come to the range.  “Wishing everyone a hearty, healthy, and safe Thanksgiving!”  Martin Martin,WSC President

Announcements

Range moves into Winter Schedule of 10 AM – 2 PM starting Dec 1st

Effective December 1st the Range will start operating under our WINTER schedule of 10 AM – 2 PM – a shift of one hour later in the day to get us more into the warm sunshine.  Just because the Grand Canyon Railroad has a Polar Express doesn’t mean we need to follow suit!  Days the Range will be open remain the same – every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Sporting Clays – Sunday Dec 15th – Set Up at 8 AM, Shooting at 10AM

As always please let Warren know your desire to participate with a RSVP to his email.   Signups are on a first come first serve basis.  If more than 12 shooters indicate an interest they will go on a Standby list. Interested?  Contact Warren Weir at warrenweir6@gmail.com or call him at 909 816-1144.

Last .22RF Fun Shoot Results

The last  .22 rimfire rifle of the season was held Oct 30th.  We had 12 WSC members come out and shoot.  The three high scores were awarded prizes.  Fun as always.  We will start up this activity next spring

Next Practical Pistol Challenge Saturday Dec 14th from 10 AM to 2 PM

The WSC continues to offer the Practical Pistol Challenge as an additional and fun shooting opportunity.  If you happen to go to the range when the course is being conducted please go over and check it out.  You’ll see it is set up to be FUN.  As the title implies, the course of fire is designed to impart ‘practical’ or a somewhat limited ‘real life defensive use’ of a pistol or pistol caliber carbine.  You may ask and engage all or only certain challenges and members may shoot the course as many times as they desire.  Bring a box of ammo (no hollow points) and a spare magazine or two.  Drawing from the Holster, if so desired, will be permitted under supervision while conducting a Practical Pistol Challenge shooting session.

Hope to see you Sat Dec 14th! – RSOs Bill Cannon and Dale Vicari will help you.

WSC Hosted Veterans, Active Military & 1st Responders to Free Range Days

Your WSC offered free range days Nov 9, 10 & 13 in recognition for their service to our country, states, and communities.  They work 24/7, holidays included, so it’s the least we could do for them as they have and continue to give dedicated service to all of us.

Help Wanted at the Range – That means you!  Yes, YOU, YOU!

Our club is getting popular and as a result our Range Safety Officers would certainly welcome a helping hand.  While the RSOs would remain in charge of the firing line and those sorts of responsibilities what our RSOs could really use are members who would be willing to come out and help with these other types of duties –

  • Helping the RSO open and set up.
  • Helping folks sign in.
  • Handing them the Safety Rules sheet to read.
  • Assisting new folks in filling out a membership form properly and collecting the dues.
  • Assisting “One Day Shooters” fill out the form and collecting the $5 donation.
  • Showing folks the target locker and helping with paper targets.
  • Helping the RSO by watching the folks behind the line to keep things safe.
  • Being the RSO’s second set of eyes – You see something – Say something!
  • Help the RSO tally the end of day entries (The job isn’t done until the paperwork is in!) and then shut down and  close the Range.

Now how would you do this?  First off contact the WSC and let us know which day you’re coming out.  Shoot us a quick email at wscazrange01@gmail.com or, even if at the last minute you decide ‘what the heck,’ you can just show up too.  The RSO is at the range about an hour early as there is ‘stuff to do’ to get the place set up.  We’ll get you a snappy orange vest to wear (but sorry no red hat), a quick introduction, and we will keep it simple for you.

PLEASE give this serious consideration as YOUR RSOs would really appreciate the help.  You can even look at the range calendar on the WSC website and pick your favorite RSO!  Bring water, sunscreen, a light pair of gloves, and a hat.  Dress appropriately.  Have a question?  Shoot us an email.  We’re all volunteers and we could sure use more help!

Range Report

A new pistol bay canopy is needed and the purchase was approved.  Jeff Reese has built and repaired several tables – Thanks!  And Mike Lessnick to donate replacement target stand cabinet – another Thanks!

We need clarity on cattle gate usage.  And more cinders requested to refresh impact berms – WPD to be contacted.  Range surface needs grooming to remove rocks.

The Grump – “Here’s my opinion – ought to be yours!”

Survival Tip – If you get lost in the forest as a result of this intense political climate, just start talking about why the country voted the way it did, and low and behold, someone will show to argue with you.

I see people my age mountain climbing – meanwhile, I feel good just getting my foot through my underwear without losing my balance and crashing to the floor.  Reminds me – time to check my Life Alert battery……..

The biggest lie I tell myself is ‘I don’t need to write it down. I’ll remember it.’

I’m so glad I was young and stupid BEFORE there were cel phone cameras.
