Announcements

April 1st Range Changed to Summer Schedule 9 AM – 1 PM – No Fooling! We have now shifted Range operations to summer hours by moving range hours one hour earlier in the day.  This as season changes get us warmer days and starting an hour earlier gets us out before the late afternoon hot sun beats down on us.  So mark your planners as starting April the Range shifts to its “Summer Schedule” of 9 AM – 1 PM.  Days the Range will be open remain the same – every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Steel Challenge – Fun Shooting Opportunity – Next Shoot Sat April 12th

This fun shooting course is open to pistols and pistol caliber carbines and now regular carbines permitted but limited to .223, 6mm ARC, .30 carbine and such.  No 7.62X39mm, .300 Blackout, .30-30, etc. permited as the targets can’t handle those larger bullet weights and velocities.  Think of this as the adult version of a kids carnival gallery shoot.  What’s not to like?

RSOs Bill Cannon and Dale Vicari run it and all those who have tried it have had a good time.  And so will you!

These two guys put a lot of working into setting up this course every month.  The weather is nice now so grab a pistol or carbine and a box or two of ammo and come try it.

Any questions just shoot us an email wscazrange01@gmail.com.

Our very own RSO Jimmie Daniels did a super job making a great impression on these folks!

Help Wanted at the Range – That means you!  Yes, You, YOU, YOU!

Our club is getting popular and as a result our Range Safety Officers would certainly welcome a helping hand.  While the RSOs would remain in charge of the firing line and those sorts of responsibilities what our RSOs could really use are members who would be willing to come out and help with these other types of duties –

  • Helping the RSO open and set up.
  • Helping folks sign in.
  • Handing them the Safety Rules sheet to read.
  • Assisting new folks in filling out a membership form properly & collecting dues.
  • Assisting “One Day Shooters” fill out the form and collecting the $10 one day membership fee.
  • Showing folks the target locker and helping with paper targets.
  • Helping the RSO by watching the folks behind the line to keep things safe.
  • Being the RSO’s second set of eyes – You see something – Say something!
  • Help the RSO tally the end of day entries (The job isn’t done until the paperwork is in!) and then shut down and closing the Range.

Now how would you do this?  You could shoot us a quick email at wscazrange01@gmail.com to let us know which day you’re coming out.  Or, even if at the last minute you decide ‘what the heck,’ you can just show up too.  The RSO is at the range about an hour early as there is ‘stuff to do’ to get the place set up.  We’ll get a quick orientation, a snappy orange vest to wear, (but sorry no red hat), and we will keep it simple for you.

PLEASE give this serious consideration as YOUR RSOs would really appreciate the help.  You can even look at the range calendar on the WSC website and pick your favorite RSO!  Bring water, sunscreen, a light pair of gloves, and a hat.  Dress appropriately.  Have a question?  Shoot us an email.  We’re all volunteers and we could sure use more help!

Do you have a Gmail account?  Then we need your Input! Please Goggle Williams Sportsman’s Club and on the right it will show “Williams Sportsman’s Club” and a picture of our range with a shooting bench.  Scroll down and click on the “Write a Review” box.  Obviously a nice comment would be appreciated but the reason for the request is that it will help with our search engine results and mapping.  Get on it!

The Grump – “Here’s my opinion – ought to be yours!”

Ask not what your Williams Sportsman’s Club can do for you, ask what you can do for your club!”

WSC Bylaws – Section 5.  Rights, Privileges and Duties of Members

a)  In that the WSC is maintained for the benefit of every member, each member should strive to share in the responsibility for its continued operation.  Therefore, it is vital to the WSC that each member volunteer a portion of his/her time, knowledge and effort as is possible to achieve the goals and objectives of the WSC so the burden of operating the WSC is not consistently placed on just a few members.

Key phrases –

• Maintained for the benefit of every member….

• Each member should strive to share in the responsibility….

• Vital that each member should volunteer…

• So the burden is not consistently placed on a few members….

Now go back and re-read page 3.

Also do you have a skill that would benefit the WSC?  We have lots of different projects and tasks that occasionally require some help.  Stay tuned for ‘Help Wanted’ announcements.

“Snap Shot” –

“Ask not what your Williams Sportsman’s Club can do for you, ask what you can do for your club!”

Now where did you come up with that saying Mr. Grump?  I think it’s brilliant!

A picture of President Kennedy with the then brand new M-16 Rifle he approved for our military from way back when.  The cost was whopping $126 for each new

M-16E1 rifle straight from the Colt factory.  Once initial testing was completed it was slightly modified (look at the triangular ‘duck bill’ flash hider) with a ‘birdcage’ flash hider and designated M-16.  Follow-on changes resulted in the M-16A1 and finally the M-16A2.

Range Safety Officer Training held March 22nd

Your WSC conducted its fifth class of RSO training and five club members joined the RSO ranks.  Congratulations to –

Gregory Ammerman, Ernest Chavez, Vic Sanchez, Fabrizio Mariotti & Glen Mayernick

Two current RSO / board members also attended for refresher training.  This was the best class yet as everyone attending was fully engaged with great questions and comments.  What also added to the success was the combination of the new training venue and having lunch served toward the end of the training.  In the past we have used the Legion Hall, but due to scheduling conflicts this training was conducted in the Ramada Inn conference room.  The room was fully conducive to our needs and Jim Perkins, the new owner, catered our awesome lunch.  These new RSO’s after shadowing an existing RSO on the range to become fully prepared will then be seen doing range duties on their own.  As part of our ongoing operations we are always looking for RSO’s as well as “helpers” who can assist on duty RSOs – Now go back and re-read page 3. (Do we sound like a broken record here?)

Friends of NRA Logo

Fun, Friends, & Firearms!  Events in Northern AZ soon!

Friends of NRA is your chance to support our Second Amendment rights and preserve America’s hunting traditions!  From games to auctions and exclusive firearms, Friends of NRA events are your chance to support a cause you care about while having a great time with patriots in your community.  Your WSC has been the recipient of a very generous NRA grant so our individual attendance at these events is proof positive of their value and support of our shooting sports activities.  If you can only do one make sure it is the Williams August 23rd event.
