Your WSC is hosting the NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program (MQP) for Pistol marksmanship on the first Sunday of the month from June 8th to September 6th from 9 AM – 1 PM.  The NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program is a skill development program and has been the flagship of NRA’s training development programs since 1903.

This year we will be working on Pistol Marksmanship.  As some participants advance we can also work on the Defensive Pistol 1 drills.  Full Details on the pistol drills being conducted are available on the NRA MQP website: https://mqp.nra.org/

Targets will be provided by the club for those who do qualify.  There is no limit to the amount of tries, but you do have to follow the drill according to the NRA guide.

Important Safety ReminderYour WSC Member Responsibilities on the Range

The WSC mandates that its members utilize safe gun handling practices.  Conversely it is the sole responsibility of every WSC member and all range users that they ensure they have a properly maintained, functional, and safe firearm.  They are expected to know how to operate the firearm properly and per the specific firearm’s owner’s operating manual.  They must ensure they have the proper caliber and type of ammunition specific to that firearm.  The use of reloaded ammunition is permitted however it is again the sole responsibility of the user that they have assembled the ammunition correctly or if purchased that it is from a responsible party.  If you have any question as to a firearm’s reliability, take it to a qualified gunsmith.

Firearms, ammunition, and firearm accessories are occasionaly the subject of a safety notice, voluntary upgrade program, or product recall.  Every firearm owner is directly responsible for their firearm, ammunition to be fired, and accessories to be utilized.  Total responsibility includes knowing your firearm, reading the manual, and understanding its functioning.  The same with ammo and accessories.  Safety is no accident.

March Board Meeting

WSC Board and General Meetings are held the second Wednesday afternoon of every month starting at 4 PM at the American Legion Hall, 425 West Grant Ave.  All WSC members and the public are welcome to attend.  Below are the highlights not covered above.  Next WSC Board meeting set for Wednesday June 11, 2025

Highlights – President Martin

  • Long time WSC member Matthew Fleece, former Treasurer and Chief Range Safety Officer, has moved to Texas.  Matt worked side by side with Keith Heimes during the transformative years of 2018 to 2022 as they enhanced the WSC.  He also built the club’s first website.  We wish him well in his new adventure.
  • The Board voted and approved voting privileges for the Vice President.
  • July elections are approaching.  While there are no vacancies to be filled if a WSC member would like to be on the board they should submit their name to Bruce Speirs, WSC VP, and nominations committee chairman.  The president has the authority to appoint new “Board Members at Large” as appropriate.
  • President Martin has recommended another annual planning session for the Board of Directors.  The meeting is set for late summer and 4 dates will be proposed.  As always these are not ‘private’ and any WSC member may attend but the proceedings are limited to just the Board members.
  • The board voted to allow the use of the SIG P320 pistol.  This after the board reviewed alleged issues involving the SIG P320 pistol, with the majority involving the pre-2017 series, and that SIG has announced a voluntary retrofit program.  There is no prohibition on its use by the USFS, City of Williams, or the club’s insurance provider.  Nor have there been any official denunciations by the NRA, AZ G&F Shooting Sports Division, or national shooting sports organizations.  This situation is similar to many makes and models of firearms that have been sold publically.  The WSC will continue to promote safe gun handling practices.
