SIG P-320 Pistol Safety Concerns & Board Action
Currently, there are significant concerns and questions being asked in the shooting sports community about the operation of the Sig P-320 pistol and reported re-occurring safety issues. As the Williams Sportsman’s Club has always placed firearms safety as paramount, this growing issue needed resolution. The Board examined the situation and has enacted this policy.
The WSC position, effective immediately, is that until these questions have been answered to our satisfaction, the WSC will no longer allow the Sig P-320 pistol and its M17 & M18 variants to be used or possessed by WSC members on the range when under WSC control.
A second attachment, with all the supporting documents the WSC Board used in its deliberations, will accompany this newsletter upon its release to the membership.
Attention Sporting Clays Shooters – The Range needs Vounteer Help!
Warren Weir, our RSO who single handedly runs the operation, always needs help! PLEASE reach out to Warren if you are able (909) 816-1144 or warrenweir6@gmail.com
Attention RSOs – if you volunteer to assist Warren at Sporting Clays this also qualifies for a monthly Range Duty assignment fulfillment.
Calling all Potential Range Safety Officers! Without RSO’s the range cannot operate so seriously consider stepping up to the plate and joining the team. Do your part and volunteer for a 4 hour range duty commitment once a month – plus you schedule it for the day that’s convenient for you. The WSC is your club and it takes everyone’s participation in one manner or another to make the club fully successful. Plan on making it a point the next time you are at the range to ask the RSO for information and the extra benefits and shooting opportunities that just RSO’s are authorized. Gee, just think about it – you’ll volunteer to spend a day at the range. Wait a minute, so you’re thinking of making a commitment, an obligation, forcing yourself, to do what? To spend a DAY AT THE RANGE?!?!
RSOs Need Help at the Range – That means you! Yes, You, YOU, YOU!
Our club is getting popular and as a result our Range Safety Officers would certainly welcome a helping hand. Do not fear as the RSOs would remain in charge of the firing line and those sorts of responsibilities. What our RSOs really need are members who would be willing to come out and help with other types of no stress duties such as –
- Helping the RSO open and set up.
- Helping folks sign in.
- Handing them the Safety Rules sheet to read.
- Assisting new folks in filling out a membership form properly & collecting dues.
- Assisting “One Day Shooters” fill out the form and collecting the $10 one day membership fee.
- Showing folks the target locker and helping with paper targets.
- Helping the RSO by watching the folks behind the line to keep things safe.
- Being the RSO’s second set of eyes – You see something – Say something!
- Help the RSO tally the end of day entries (The job isn’t done until the paperwork is in!) and then shut down and closing the Range.
Now how would you do this? You could shoot us a quick email at wscazrange01@gmail.com to let us know which day you’re coming out. Or, even if at the last minute you decide ‘what the heck,’ you can just show up too. The RSO is at the range about an hour early as there is ‘stuff to do’ to get the place set up. We’ll get a quick orientation, a snappy orange vest to wear, (but sorry no red hat), and we will keep it simple for you.
PLEASE give this serious consideration as YOUR RSOs would really appreciate the help. You can even look at the range calendar on the WSC website and pick your favorite RSO! Bring water, sunscreen, a light pair of gloves, and a hat. Dress appropriately. Have a question? Shoot us an email.
We are all volunteers and we could sure use more help!
And General Assistance – Here’s Your Chance to Do Your Part! Yippee!
Do you know how to pound a nail, use a saw, and handle a paint brush? If so we keep an eye out when we put out a “Calling All Volunteers” message in the future. For those of you who missed out on all the recent work, this will be your chance to join in and do your part for your club! Let’s spread the fun around some and the more volunteers that show up the faster and easier the process goes! Just think – a day at the Range! As those needs arise we will send out a club wide email.
Last NRA Pistol Marksmanship Qualifications Sat Sept 6th
Your last WSC NRA Marksmanship Qualification will be Saturday September 6th from 9 AM – 1 PM. The NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program is a skill development program and has been the flagship of NRA’s training development programs since 1903. Full Details on the pistol drills being conducted are available on the NRA MQP website: https://mqp.nra.org/
Targets will be provided by the club for those who do qualify. Semi-automatics and Revolvers can both be used, and all calibers (including 22lr) and all sights and optics are welcome. Youth and Family are invited to participate. If you have any questions or need more details please reach out to the range at wscazrange01@gmail.com

Sat Sept 13th Steel Challenge Shoot – Fun Stuff!
This fun shooting course is open to pistols and pistol caliber carbines, and now regular carbines are permitted but limited to .223, 6mm ARC, .30 carbine and such. No 7.62X39mm, .300 Blackout, .30-30, etc. permitted as the targets can’t handle those larger bullet weights and velocities. Think of this as the adult version of a kids carnival gallery shoot. What’s not to like?

Range Safety Officers – We’re Busy at the Range!
On the weekends the range has been busy so if your calendar was full when the range sign up calendar first came out and a date didn’t work out for you at that time, consider this. On the weekends more than one RSO covering the range is really nice due to the amount of shooters who come out. So as time goes on and you find an opportunity, just come out and help a fellow RSO. I know they will appreciate you showing up as I’m sure you would! And some more important items for you all –
- Yes we know a few of you are spread thin because of family responsibilities, work demands, working the Range and Sporting Clays, and your ongoing dedication to additional shooting sports activities. We hear you loud and clear! This is totally understood and appreciated so no worries.
- A big Thank You! to our summer RSOs who play a major role in ensuring the range is open and run safely! You cover our local RSOs when they go on vacation.
- Where’s the Beef? The range cattle are back so the Range entry gate must be kept closed.
- See something that needs fixing? In the RSO white binder there is a section devoted to “Range Maintence” write ups. Just make note the things you see need fixing and the range crew will take it from there.
