Range Safety Officers – We’re Busy at the Range!

On the weekends the range has been busy so if your calendar was full when the range sign up calendar first came out and a date didn’t work out for you at that time, consider this.  On the weekends – and usuaully Saturdays – more than one RSO covering the range is really nice due to the amount of shooters who come out.  So as time goes on and you find an opportunity, just come out and help a fellow RSO.  I know they will appreciate you showing up as I’m sure you would!  And some more important items for you all –

  • Yes we know a few of you are spread thin because of family responsibilities, work demands, working the Range and Sporting Clays, and your ongoing dedication to additional shooting sports activities.  We hear you loud and clear!  This is totally understood and appreciated so no worries.
  • A big Thank You! to our summer RSOs who play a major role in ensuring the range is open and run safely!  You cover our local RSOs when they go on vacation.
  • See something that needs fixing?  In the RSO white binder there is a section devoted to “Range Maintence” write ups.  Just make note the things you see need fixing and the range crew will take it from there.
  • Warren always needs help with Sporting Clays so if you volunteer to assist this qualifies as Range Duty fulfillment.  If able (909) 816-1144 or warrenweir6@gmail.com

Practical – Tactical Tips

Fall is Here = Dusk Lighting Conditions

So what’s up?  Notice that the summer sun is not out to 8 PM anymore?  Notice the sun does not come up until 6 AM? – That’s what!  And as the days move further into winter it will be getting darker sooner and lighter later.  So why is that important?  To see you need light, conversely, to see your firearms sites – and shoot effectively – you need effective light.  That means you must have a readily available and capable flashlight.  You need a gun for a gun fight and you need that plus light for a night gun fight!  You’ll probably never need it to shoot but being able to find the door lock at night is a good thing too.

Most new semiautomatic pistols have ‘rails’ to slip on a Streamlight weapon light.  Or you can carry a small ‘tactical’ type pocket flashlight.  You carry a pocket knife?  Get a flashlight!

Flashlight – Good Slide on Weapon Light – Best

These new lights are not your grandfather’s old D cell camping flashlight.  These have high intensity LED or Xenon bulbs and are quite bright.  They cost more but you are getting more too!  The old adage of “You get what you pay for” comes true.  And you can get ‘rails’ to mount on your rifle, carbine or shotgun too.  Tritium night sites are nice but they stop working after five years.  Then you drop another $100 for a new set and ask a gunsmith to change them out.  For the same money you should buy a weapon light and just change the batteries as needed.

The vast majority of criminals engaging police officers in gunfights happen at night?  Why?  Well that’s when criminals are normally out doing bad things.

In an upcoming newsletter there will be a write up on these lights and such but in the meantime at least get a good tactical type flashlight.

The Grump – “Here’s my opinion – ought to be yours!”

And so ends another week of me not becoming unexpectedly rich….

You know you’re getting old when you barely do anything all day but still need to have a nap to continue to barely do anything.

When I say “the other day,” I could be referring to anytime between yesterday and 15 years ago.

I just posted a ‘selfie’ and people told me to get well soon.
