“On Target!”
January 2026
Warren Weir stepping down from WSC RSO, Treasurer & Sporting Clays
Warren joined the WSC in 2019 and immediately signed up to be a Range Safety Officer. He then took over the position of Sporting Clays Director upon the untimely passing of Keith Heimes in January 2024 and then added the duties of Treasurer in July 2024. He certainly embodies the true definition of devoted volunteer. Everyone found Warren easy going and totally understanding of how a volunteer organization runs. He was encouraging and supportive of members and was very grateful of their assistance at the Sporting Clays Range. Warren will remain a WSC member but now intends direct his free time on RV trips with his wife Pam, visiting family, and of course more summer fishing! We thank Warren for his devoted service and wish him many safe travels.
The Numbers are in for 2025
The WSC Range hosted approximately 1250 shooters for 2025; just about the same as 2024. But now that our membership numbers are up significantly we’ll see what 2026 brings. Guess the word is getting out about how nice our range is and how our Members and RSOs are so friendly!
Do you have a Gmail account? Then we need your Input!
Please Goggle Williams Sportsman’s Club and on the right it will show “Williams Sportsman’s Club” and a picture of our range with a shooting bench. Scroll down and click on the “Write a Review” box. Obviously a nice comment would be appreciated but the reason for the request is that it will help with our search engine results and mapping.
Board Meeting
The monthly WSC Board meetings are held the second Wednesday starting at 4 PM at the American Legion Hall, 425 West Grant Ave. All WSC members and the public are welcome to attend. Next WSC Board meeting set for February 11th at 4 PM.
Membership Report
New Members
Welcome 10 new members who joined in December –
Sharon Frasca Williams Nathan Greene Sergio Ramirez
Gary Hall Joshua & April Gallant Joe, Kimberly, Jordana and Josephine Kelley
We ended 2025 with a total of 501 members, an increase of 95 over 2024.
Membership renewal process
Your WSC has made some important improvements to the membership renewal processes – and no, we did not raise membership dues. Early in 2025 we changed the membership period from a Calendar year to a rolling 12-month membership. We also approved the use of credit cards for payments which provides several benefits to Members and your WSC.
Our Members will receive a true one-year membership with the renewal date being one year from your date of sign-up. In other words if you signed up in September last year your membership renewal will be in September this year, and so on.
Membership renewal notices will be sent about a month before the expiration date and will be generated by our membership system known as Zeffy and sent using our WSC email address lists. Please do not block this site, it is not SPAM.
Renewals will now be occurring over 12 months vs. all of them coming due at once will greatly assist our volunteer membership staff from being besieged at the start of every year.
Since we have improved our online website, which now includes an electronic sign-up and renewals, we are encouraging all members to renew online.
When you use the online process you will receive a confirmation email. Included will be a link for those of you who would like to download and print out your membership card.
A new membership form has been developed for those members that prefer the paper signup process.
All Membership and Renewal forms and online links are available on our website. Cut and paste this into your browser https://wscaz.org/membership/
Again we encourage our members to renew online through the Zeffy system. If you have any questions, please send an email to wscazrange01@gmail.com and we will get back to you.
Sporting Clays
The January shoot was cancelled due to weather.
Warren Weir has ‘retired’ from his assignment as our Sporting Clays Director. Bill Townsend has volunteered to take over and he will be assisted by Bill Tocci. Warren took over after the untimely passing of Keith Heimes in January 2024. Thanks Warren!
The Sporting Clays will continue to operate as follows. Two different start times – 10 AM for Round 1, and 1 PM for Round 2. If you would like to shoot one or both, please respond to reserve your spot or spots. As always we will have a cut off of 12 shooters per Round. If you have any questions or concerns, please call / text or email Bill Townsend directly. Bill Townsend 623 570-2744 townsendb2000@gmail.com
Next shoot is scheduled for Sun Feb 22nd.
Range Report
The 50 yard target stands were improved and are hoped to be ‘wind proof’ for sure now! WSC President Martin and Range Maintenance Director Glen Mayernick are appreciative of those members who volunteered & braved the cold not once but twice in January to get this project completed.
Words of Wisdom

Tactical / Practical Tips
Words and Phrases you’ll be Hearing in 2026
Things like Shoot, Move, Reload; Bringing your Spouse to the Range; Its Dark 12 out of 24 Hours so Where’s your Flashlight?; Situational Awareness; Concealed or Open Carry?; Extra Ammo; Use of Cover; Clearing the Area; Pistol, Shotgun or Rifle – Have the Right Gun for the Job – and lots more good stuff.
Got a Gun Safe – Does it have a Combination Dial or a Digital Keypad?
Here are several things to do if you have one –
Keep the Instructions outside of the safe. Do not keep the combo with the instructions.
Send the Combo to someone trustworthy to keep ‘just in case.’ And some safe companies offer a service where they store the combo on file but it can be made available in case of emergency with proper identification verification. I know of two situations in which the safe owners passed on and the family could not get in the safes for many days to access insurance policies, vehicle titles, will or trust, valuables, and real estate paperwork. One safe had to be cut open and the other a locksmith that had the skills and tools had to be summoned from quite a distance and at a very hefty price.
Set an annual battery replacement schedule. Mark your calendar to do so and use a date like your birthday or some other ‘happy’ day.
Frequently inspect the contents for humidity. Get a humidity monitor and a silica gel dehumidifier. At the minimum pull all the guns out at least once a year, look them over and give them all a light wipe down with oil. If one or two are found dirty then clean them. A safe full of rusty guns is a disaster!
Nothing worse than not having a safe. Those that keep guns in soft gun cases are just asking for them to rust or be stolen.
The Grump – “Here’s my opinion – ought to be yours!”

How can it be this cold and blustery for this long with absolutely no snow?
Survival tip – If you get lost in the forest start talking politics and someone will show up to argue with you.
My billion dollar idea – A smoke detector that shuts off when you yell “I’m just cooking!”

Small Utility Trailer for Sale
This trailer is the lucky recipient of a total ground up refurbishment by the late Keith Heimes – a detail oriented craftsman who took pride in everything he did. This trailer has enjoyed a luxury life sitting in my cozy and dry garage ever since. Like brand new. Spring suspension, perfect paint, brand new tires, brand new spare tire and wheel, removable rear gate, and comes with a quick change set up for three different hitch types – just pull the red pin and quickly go from a Clevis, to a 2” ball, or the 1⅞” ball. This would be a great firewood hauler to tow behind your side by side. Slide in the rear gate and fill ‘er up. And a Perfect Valentine’s Day gift! Located near Deer Farm exit. Asking $250 / OBO.
